Auditions and casting calls for 'The Great Gatsby' starring Leonardo DiCaprio

The Great Gatsby Casting Calls Auditions

"The Great Gatsby" will film for seventeen weeks in Australia.
AB Media Publishing

The feature film "The Great Gatsby" starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire will be filming for 17 weeks beginning mid-late September 2011 near Sydney and Moore Park, New South Wales, Australia. The casting directors are casting supporting roles, day players, extras, photo doubles, and stand-ins to work various dates during production. Over 400 cast and crew are being employed during principal photography.

Also starring in the film is the beautiful and talented Academy Award nominated British actress Carey Mulligan, who has starred in such hit films as "Pride & Prejudice," "Public Enemies," "Brothers," "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps," "Drive," and the recently completed "Shame". Mulligan is considered one of the most highly sought after actors today.

Academy Award nominee Baz Luhrmann is directing "The Great Gatsby" from a screenplay that he wrote with Craig Pearce. Luhrman is also producing with his Luhrmann/Bazmark Films partners Catherine Martin (who is also his wife) and Catherine Knapman, and Red Wagon partners Doug Wick and Lucy Fisher. Luhrmann has decided that he wants to shoot "The Great Gatsby" in 3D, and it has become one of the hottest upcoming films in Hollywood.

The film was originally slated to shoot in New York where writer F. Scott Fitzgerald's highly praised 1925 novel of the same name takes place. Director Bazz Luhrmann even moved with his family from Australia to Chelsea, New York in in September 2010. However he made the decision to film "The Great Gatsby" in New South Wales, and transform the Moore Park sound stages into an enclave of the super rich, Long Island in the summer of 1922. Scenes shot in Sydney will recreate New York's Plaza Hotel and Long Island's magnificent mansions. The movie will earn the New South Wales economy over $120 million.

In 2010, it was reported that the film would be set up by Sony Pictures Entertainment, but in early 2011 Warner Bros. Pictures closed a deal to finance and take over worldwide distribution of "The Great Gatsby".
