Casting call for family adventure feature film 'Mickey Matson and The Pirate's Code'

Mickey Matson and The Pirate's Code Casting Call

"Mickey Matson and The Pirate's Code" is a sequel to "Mickey Matson and the Copperhead Conspiracy".
10 West Studios

10 West Studios is currently in production on the SAG-AFTRA family adventure comedy feature film "Mickey Matson and The Pirate's Code", which is a follow up to the 2012 feature film "Mickey Matson and the Copperhead Conspiracy". Casting directors in Los Angeles and Michigan are holding auditions for lead, supporting, and day player roles. The photo-doubles and stand-ins for the principal actors, as well as general extras and featured background actors will be hired throughout shooting. Principal photography is scheduled to begin in Grand Rapids, Michigan on September 5, 2013.

In "Mickey Matson and The Pirate's Code", buddies Mickey Matson and Sully are thrilled to be re-activated by the Secret Order of Patriots, where his Grandpa Jack and her Grams are already members in good standing. This time, their mission is to steal aboard the dastardly Admiral Joseph "Ironsides" Lee's pirate ship and destroy the Tesla machine that he plans to use to stop the world's electronic grid and bring technology to a stop, so that he can implement his own Pirate Code of Conduct. Mickey and Sully end up working together with Billy Lee, who they put in jail in the first film.

Returning in the title role of Mickey Matson is Derek Brandon, a Michigan native. Brandon started acting when he was 4 years old, and eventually was cast at Disneyland as the voice of Tom Sawyer on the Mark Twain Riverboat Ride. His feature film credits include "The Christmas Bunny," "A Dog for Christmas," and "Holiday Miracle". Matson is repped by Mitchell Gossett at CESD. Also starring in "Mickey Matson and The Pirate's Code" is Francesca DeRosa in the role of Sully Braginton. DeRosa started out in show biz in 2008, when she had a 16-episode stint on "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?". Aside from the first Mickey Matson film, her lone feature film credit was "Christmas with a Capital C" starring alongside Ted McGinley and Daniel Baldwin. Other cast members starring in Mickey Madson 2 are Emmy Award nominees Christopher Lloyd of "Back to the Future" fame returning in the role of Grandpa Jack, and Patrika Darbo as Grams.

Talented filmmaker and Michigan native Harold Cronk is directing "Mickey Matson and The Pirate's Code" from an original screenplay written by himself and Erick Machiela. Cronk will also produce for 10 West Studios along with partner Matthew Tailford. 10 West Studios has a massive studio lot in Michigan consisting of seven sound stages. Cronk is a winner of the Best Director award at the Beverly Hills International Film Festival. Stephen Afendoulis will executive produce Mickey Matson 2. Screen Media Films will handle domestic distribution.

Casting calls for Sony Pictures film 'The Kitchen Sink' starring Vanessa Hudgens and featuring vampires, zombies, and aliens

The Kitchen Sink Casting Calls

"The Kitchen Sink" is scheduled to hit theaters October 17, 2014.
AB Media Publishing, LLC

Matt Tolmach Productions and Circle of Confusion are getting ready to begin production on the Sony Pictures comedy feature film "The Kitchen Sink" and casting directors are holding auditions for starring, co-starring, supporting, and day-player roles. The stand-ins and photo-doubles for the principal actors, as well as general extras and featured background actors are also now being cast. Shooting will take place in Los Angeles beginning on August 5, 2013 and will continue through September 15, 2013. "The Kitchen Sink" will hit theaters on October 17, 2014.

"The Kitchen Sink" is about the unlikely alliance between a high school-aged vampire, zombie and human as they try to save their town from invading aliens. Think "Breakfast Club" meets "Zombieland", you get an idea of the title in an early scene where two kids are running from zombies. Those zombies suddenly are attacked by vampires. Just when they are all facing off, there's a bright light overhead. You realize the aliens have landed and these groups have to band together, suppress the urge to kill each other, and it becomes thematically the enemy of my enemy is my friend. That makes it different than your usual zombie, vampire, or alien movie.

Starring in "The Kitchen Sink" is two-time Teen Choice Awards winner Vanessa Hudgens playing the role of a popular teen who finds herself in danger when aliens invade her small town of Danville. The former Disney Channel star recently starred opposite Nicolas Cage and John Cusack in the feature film "The Frozen Ground". She also starred with Amber Heard in "Machete Kills", and just completed voicing the role of Janis in the animated feature film "The Great Migration". Also starring in "The Kitchen Sink" is two-time Golden Globe Awards nominee Denis Leary playing a wealthy and smart resident of Danville. Young Artist Awards nominee Nicholas Braun, The Amazing Spider-Man's Chris Zylka, Mackenzie Davis, and Josh Fadem have also joined the cast.

Independent Spirit Awards nominee Robbie Pickering will direct "The Kitchen Sink" from an original screenplay written by Oren Uziel, who is also writing the screenplay for "22 Jump Street," "Mortal Kombat," and "Men in Black 4". Matthew Tolmach will produce with Kate Checchi under the banner of his production company Matt Tolmach Productions. Tolmach produced "The Amazing Spider-Man," and the upcoming "The Amazing Spider-Man 2". VP of Production Lauren Abraham will oversee production for Sony Pictures.

Talent search continues for boy to star in feature film 'Crazy For The Storm' directed by Sean Penn

Crazy For The Storm Child Actor Talent Search

"Crazy For The Storm" begins shooting in January, 2014.
AB Media Publishing, LLC

Gerber Pictures is now in pre-production on the Warner Bros. Pictures true-story action survival feature film "Crazy For The Storm" based on the bestselling novel "Crazy For The Storm: A Memoir Of Survival" by Norman Ollestad. A massive talent search has been taking place since February, 2013 for a boy who can play 11 year-old Norman Ollestad. The talent search included online video submissions accepted through Cast It Talent. However, the right boy was not discovered and new casting director information is now available.

"Crazy For The Storm" tells the story of Norman Ollestad, who at eleven years old was riding in a Cessna in a blizzard through California's San Gabriel Mountains in 1979, on his way to pick up a trophy he won in a skiing competition. The plane crash that followed killed his father and the pilot, also badly wounding his father's girlfriend Sandra, who with young Norman was savagely thrown onto the top of an 8,600-foot mountain in the freezing, February chill. After Sandra dies, Norman endures a grueling nine-hour life-or-death journey down the mountain during a blizzard. On the descent, Norman recounts in flashbacks how his father infused his love for extreme sports in him as a boy, pressing him to become a competitive surfer and skier, experience that allowed him to survive the ordeal.

Starring in "Crazy For The Storm" is Academy Award nominee Josh Brolin playing the role of young Norman's father Norman Ollestad Sr. Two-time Academy Award winner Sean Penn is directing from an adapted screenplay written by Will Fetters. This will be the third time that Sean Penn and Josh Brolin have worked together on a feature film. For the film "Milk," Penn won an Academy Award and Brolin was nominated for an Oscar. In the Warner Bros. Pictures feature film "Gangster Squad", Penn played the ruthless mob king Mickey Cohen while Brolin portrayed the determined Sgt. John O'Mara. Penn recently starred in Ben Stiller's "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty", while Brolin starred in the upcoming "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For".

Primetime Emmy Award nominee Bill Gerber will produce for Gerber Pictures. His producing credits include "The In-Laws" starring Michael Douglas and Ryan Reynolds, "Gran Torino" starring Clint Eastwood, and the upcoming "Grudge Match" starring Sylvester Stallone and Robert De Niro. Also producing is Norman Ollestad's literary manager Rob Weisbach, and Fonda Snyder. Ollestad will executive produce. Warner Bros. will handle domestic distribution.

The following is what the original casting call was seeking:

[NORMAN OLLESTAD] Male, 9-11 years of age, Caucasian. Must have surfing experience to play this lead role. The boy should be mentally tough and comfortable with sensitive and difficult scripted material.

All talent, including minors and foreign talent must be legally eligible to work in the state of California and in the United States.

Story:

From the age of three, Norman Ollestad was thrust into the world of surfing and competitive downhill skiing by the intense, charismatic father he both idolized and resented. While his friends were riding bikes, playing ball, and going to birthday parties, young Norman was whisked away in pursuit of wild and demanding adventures. Yet it were these exhilarating tests of skill that prepared "Boy Wonder," as his father called him, to become a fearless champion—and ultimately saved his life. Flying to a ski championship ceremony in February 1979, the chartered Cessna carrying Norman, his father, his father's girlfriend, and the pilot crashed into the San Gabriel Mountains and was suspended at 8,200 feet, engulfed in a blizzard. "Dad
and I were a team, and he was Superman," Ollestad writes. But now Norman's father was dead, and the devastated eleven-year-old had to descend the treacherous, icy mountain alone.

AB Media Publishing, LLC

BCDF Pictures is now in pre-production on the upcoming feature film "Mahjong and the West", and an open casting call has been scheduled for both adult and child actors. The project will shoot in the Jackson Hole valley area of Wyoming from July through August, 2013. Local people who are interested in working on the film as background performers are also welcome to attend the open call. Both SAG-AFTRA members and non-union talent will be considered.

"Mahjong and the West" tells the story of a young woman named Maddy Linden who suffers the tragedy of her mother, Diane, being killed in a hit-and-run. Kate Bennett, Maddy’s childhood friend, reunites with her after fifteen years, and the two are forced to revisit a shared trauma from their past - an incident that Kate refuses to acknowledge ever happened. Maddy finds solace in the form of a summer fling with Kate’s cousin Jack, a rugged bull rider. Ultimately Kate and Maddy rely on each other to get their lives back on track.

The beautiful and talented duo of Alyssa Carpenter and Jannette Bloom are set to star in the film. The two previously collaborated on the film "Narcissa", which was a 2012 Nicholl Fellowship Quarterfinalist. Jannette Bloom has appeared on the television shows "The Big Bang Theory," "Big Time Rush," and "Portlandia". She directed and starred in the 2012 short film "Sadie and Kella: Lethal Ladies". Alyssa Carpenter graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a degree in French and English. She recently played the lead role Samantha in the thriller feature film "Scarf".

Filmmaker Joseph Muszynski will direct "Mahjong and the West" from an original screenplay written by Alyssa Carpenter and Jannette Bloom. Muszynski served as executive producer and writer on the 2011 indie comedy-drama film "Peace, Love, & Misunderstanding" which starred two-time Academy Award winner Jane Fonda, two-time Academy Award nominee Catherine Keener, Golden Globe Award winner Kyle MacLachlan, Golden Globe Award nominee Rosanna Arquette, and Independent Spirit Awards nominee Elizabeth Olsen. Story:

"Mahjong and the West" centers on Maddy Linden, who runs a New York interior design firm with her mother Diane. The two work together like yin and yang, tackling modern Brooklyn lofts and traditional Manhattan brownstones. When Diane dies in a tragic hit and run, Maddy’s grandmother Shirley, a Wyoming native, reveals that Diane wanted to be buried in the family plot. Maddy returns to Wyoming for the first time since she was 12. At Shirley’s beautiful home at the base of the Teton Mountains, Maddy is reacquainted with a tradition Shirley has upheld for thirty years—donning festive Chinese attire, drinking wine, and playing Mahjong weekly with her girlfriends. Kate Bennett, Maddy’s childhood friend, plays with the ladies sometimes, and the two of them reunite after fifteen years. Maddy works on selling her mother’s assets which include a ranch that Kate works on, a situation that creates a lot of tension between them. On top of that, Maddy tries to bring up the traumatic incident that both girls experienced before Maddy moved away, but Kate refuses to acknowledge that it even happened. Maddy finds solace in the form of a summer fling with Kate’s cousin Jack, a rugged bull rider. Ultimately Kate and Maddy rely on each other to get their lives back on track.
