Mahjong and the West Wyoming Open Casting Calls

"Mahjong and the West" will film in Jackson Hole July through August, 2013.
AB Media Publishing, LLC

BCDF Pictures is now in pre-production on the upcoming feature film "Mahjong and the West", and an open casting call has been scheduled for both adult and child actors. The project will shoot in the Jackson Hole valley area of Wyoming from July through August, 2013. Local people who are interested in working on the film as background performers are also welcome to attend the open call. Both SAG-AFTRA members and non-union talent will be considered.

"Mahjong and the West" tells the story of a young woman named Maddy Linden who suffers the tragedy of her mother, Diane, being killed in a hit-and-run. After Maddy’s grandmother Shirley, a Wyoming native, reveals that Diane wanted to be buried in the family plot, Maddy returns to Wyoming for the first time since she was 12. Kate Bennett, Maddy’s childhood friend, reunites with her after fifteen years, and the two are forced to revisit a shared trauma from their past - an incident that Kate refuses to acknowledge ever happened. Maddy finds solace in the form of a summer fling with Kate’s cousin Jack, a rugged bull rider. Ultimately Kate and Maddy rely on each other to get their lives back on track.

The beautiful and talented duo of Alyssa Carpenter and Jannette Bloom are set to star in the film. The two previously collaborated on the film "Narcissa", which was a 2012 Nicholl Fellowship Quarterfinalist. Jannette Bloom has appeared on the television shows "The Big Bang Theory," "Big Time Rush," and "Portlandia". She directed and starred in the 2012 short film "Sadie and Kella: Lethal Ladies". Alyssa Carpenter graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a degree in French and English. She recently played the lead role Samantha in the thriller feature film "Scarf".

Filmmaker Joseph Muszynski will direct "Mahjong and the West" from an original screenplay written by Alyssa Carpenter and Jannette Bloom. Muszynski served as executive producer and writer on the 2011 indie comedy-drama film "Peace, Love, & Misunderstanding" which starred two-time Academy Award winner Jane Fonda, two-time Academy Award nominee Catherine Keener, Golden Globe Award winner Kyle MacLachlan, Golden Globe Award nominee Rosanna Arquette, and Independent Spirit Awards nominee Elizabeth Olsen. That film's production company, BCDF Pictures, will also produce "Mahjong and the West".

Story:

"Mahjong and the West" centers on Maddy Linden, who runs a New York interior design firm with her mother Diane. The two work together like yin and yang, tackling modern Brooklyn lofts and traditional Manhattan brownstones. When Diane dies in a tragic hit and run, Maddy’s grandmother Shirley, a Wyoming native, reveals that Diane wanted to be buried in the family plot. Maddy returns to Wyoming for the first time since she was 12. At Shirley’s beautiful home at the base of the Teton Mountains, Maddy is reacquainted with a tradition Shirley has upheld for thirty years—donning festive Chinese attire, drinking wine, and playing Mahjong weekly with her girlfriends. Kate Bennett, Maddy’s childhood friend, plays with the ladies sometimes, and the two of them reunite after fifteen years. Maddy works on selling her mother’s assets which include a ranch that Kate works on, a situation that creates a lot of tension between them. On top of that, Maddy tries to bring up the traumatic incident that both girls experienced before Maddy moved away, but Kate refuses to acknowledge that it even happened. Maddy finds solace in the form of a summer fling with Kate’s cousin Jack, a rugged bull rider. Ultimately Kate and Maddy rely on each other to get their lives back on track.

Major feature film 'Laggies' casting extras in Seattle

Anonymous Content is in pre-production on the upcoming major indie feature film "Laggies" starring Chloe Moretz, Sam Rockewell, and Keira Knightley. Filming will take place in Seattle, WA beginning June 3, 2013. Seattle native Lynn Shelton will direct from a screenplay by Andrea Seigel. Casting directors in Los Angeles and New York are auditioning talent for lead and supporting roles. The extras casting director in Seattle is hiring background actors, and will continue casting extras throughout production.

"Laggies" centers on a woman named Megan who has been living in perpetual adolescence, as she never switched over to the formality that adulthood imposes. Unsure of how to respond to her photographer boyfriend Anthony's marriage proposal, Megan pretends to go on a work retreat out of town, but ends up spending a week with her new 16-year-old pal Annika and all of her friends. Megan helps Annika to attempt a reconciliation with her mother Bethany, who chose a career as a lingerie model and left Annika and her father Craig. During the week, Megan and Annika bond and experience everything from stealing a beer keg from a party, to skateboarding, and toilet-papering a parent's house. When Megan unknowingly begins to have feelings for Annika's father, things get complicated.

Despite widespread reports that Anne Hathaway is starring in "Laggies", two-time Academy Award nominee Keira Knightley has been cast to play the starring role of Megan. Hathaway was in negotiations at one point, however Keira Knightley was cast after an agreement could not be reached with Ms. Hathaway. People's Choice Awards winner Chloë Grace Moretz is playing the role of 16-year-old pal Annika. Two-time Screen Actors Guild Awards nominee Sam Rockwell has joined the cast playing the role of Annika's lonely single father Craig. Rounding out the top four roles is Mark Webber playing Megan's boyfriend Anthony.

Directing "Laggies" is the highly respected and accomplished indie film director and writer Lynn Shelton. Among the films that Shelton has directed are "We Go Way Back" starring Amber Hubert and Maggie Brown, which is about a 23-year old actress, Kate, confronted by her 13-year old self; "Humpday" starring Joshua Leonard and Mark Duplass, about two college buddies who decide to have sex on-camera as part of an art project; "Your Sister's Sister" starring Mark Duplass and Emily Blunt, a comedy about doing the right thing with the wrong person; and "Touchy Feely" starring Rosemarie DeWitt, Ellen Page, and Allison Janney. Lynn Shelton's films have won multiple film festival awards. Academy Award nominee Steve Golin of Anonymous Content will produce alongside Alix Madigan and Rosalie Swedlin.

Casting teens for major feature film 'The Maze Runner' lead roles

The Gotham Group is now in pre-production on the first film in a major science fiction feature film trilogy "The Maze Runner" for Twentieth Century Fox. The movie is based on the first book in a young-adult dystopian science fiction trilogy of the same name by James Dashner. The film's Primetime Emmy Award nominated casting director is holding auditions for the starring roles, which consists of a group of teen boys and a teen female. All types and ethnicities are being encouraged to submit. Rehearsals begin in mid-April, and shooting starts on May 1, 2013 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. All of the stand-ins and extras will be hired in the Baton Rouge area close to the start of filming.

"The Maze Runner" centers on the protagonist character of a teen named Thomas, who wakes up in a rickety elevator with no memory. When the doors open, Thomas finds himself surrounded by kids who welcome him to the Glade - a large, open expanse surrounded by stone walls. Nobody knows why or how they got to the Glade, but every morning the stone doors open up to an awe-inspiring maze that is is constantly shifting. The Gladers' only hope of escaping lie in the hands of elite Maze Runners who search for an exit each day. Every night the doors are closed tight, and everyone must get out, or fall prey to creatures who prowl the maze. Every 30 days a new boy is delivered in the elevator, but suddenly the first girl, Theresa, shows up. Together, Thomas and Teresa must embark on a quest to solve the riddle of the maze and reveal the chilling secret of who brought them there, and why.

Filmmaker Wes Ball is directing "The Maze Runner" from an adapted screenplay written by television producer turned film writer Noah Oppenheim. Ball came into prominence after his short film "Ruin" went super-viral on the internet with nearly five million hits. He then signed with Agency for the Performing Arts and Gotham Group, then sold the rights to his feature length version of "Ruin" to 20th Century Fox, who then named Ball as director of "The Maze Runner". The studio originally picked up "The Maze Runner" back in late 2010, with "Twilight" director Catherine Hardwicke attached to direct. Wes Ball graduated from Florida State University Film School. Before writing feature film screenplays, Noah Oppenheim executive produced the MTV series "The Buried Life," and served as senior producer on the NBC News show "Today" for several years.

Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation executive vice president Peter Kang and creative executive Daria Cercek will both oversee production for the studio. Management and production company Gotham Group's Primetime Emmy Award nominated CEO Ellen Goldsmith-Vein will produce "The Maze Runner". Lindsay Williams and Lee Stollman will also produce for Gotham. Goldsmith-Vein and Stollman are currently producing "Untitled Elmore Leonard Project" starring Jennifer Aniston, Tim Robbins, and Isla Fisher.

Thomas awakens in a dilapidated elevator with no memories except for his own name. The elevator deposits him into a strange place called The Glade – a large outdoor space surrounded on all sides by 150 foot walls of solid stone, and inhabited by 50 other boys who have lived there for the past 2 years all with no memory of how they got there or who sent them. Every morning the walls move apart to allow the boys out of the Glade and into the enormous and complex MAZE that stretches for miles and miles with no clear end or escape. At night the walls seal the boys inside the Glade and protect them from the vicious Grievers – insect like creatures who prowl the maze and attack anybody unfortunate enough to get stuck in it overnight. The maze is constantly shifting, awe-inspiring, and so far, unsolved. The Gladers' only hope of escaping lie in the hands of elite Maze Runners who search the shifting maze for an exit each day.
