Millennium Films epic feature 'The Iceman' casting process in high gear

Bleiberg Entertainment has teamed up with Nu Image and Millennium Films to produce the upcoming feature film "The Iceman", starring the talented trio of Michael Shannon, Benicio Del Toro, and James Franco.

Ariel Vromen will helm the picture, which is the epic true story of Richard Kuklinski, aka "The Iceman," a ruthless mafia hitman. Vromen directed the Marisa Tomei film "Danika" for First Look International, which is a Subsidiary of Nu Image Films.

The film's screenplay is being written by Morgan Land based on the book "The Iceman: The True Story of a Cold-Blooded Killer" by Anthony Bruno. Director Ariel Vromen is also involved in the screenplay development. Writer Morgan Land has collaborated with Ariel Vromen previously on the films "Rx" and "The Point of No Return".

This film is not to be confused with another project about the same subject. Mickey Rourke is currently set to star as hitman Richard "The Ice Man" Kuklinski in "The Ice Man," an upcoming film based on Philip Carlo's novel "The Ice Man: Confessions of a Mafia Contract Killer". That film is being adapted into a screenplay by David McKenna and produced by Matty Beckerman.

Casting Society of America Artios Award nominee Deborah Aquila has been named the casting director for The Iceman. Aquila is also the recipient of the Hollywood Film Festival's prestigious Hollywood Film Award for Outstanding Achievement in Casting. Her casting credits include the films House of Sand and Fog, The Shawshank Redemption, The Expendables, Twilight and countless other films and television series.

Columbia Pictures auditions for Spiderman 2.0 in 3D moving forward

The Emmy Award nominated and seven time Casting Society of America Artios Award winning casting director Francine Maisler has been brought in by Columbia Pictures to cast the upcoming Spider-Man reboot. The film now has a working title of Spiderman 2.0 and Andrew Garfield has been tapped to play Peter Parker aka Spiderman.

The highly talented Mark Webb will direct the film. Webb was mostly known as a music video and short-film director until his feature length debut, (500) Days of Summer.

Originally there were plans for 'Spider-Man 4' with Sam Raimi attached to direct and Maguire, Dunst and other cast members set to reprise their roles. Sony Pictures announced in January 2010 that plans for Spider-Man 4 had been canceled due to Raimi's withdrawal from the project. Raimi reportedly ended his participation due to doubt that he could meet the planned May 6, 2011 release date while upholding the film creatively. Simultaneous with the cancellation of Spider-Man 4, Sony announced that the franchise would be rebooted with a new director and new cast.

The studio is working off a script by James Vanderbilt, and has hired two time Academy Award winning veteran screenwriter Alvin Sargent to fine-tune the script and do a production polish for the Spiderman reboot. Sargent has worked on every single 'Spider-Man' movie, and has become Sony Studio’s go-to guy for punching up weighty scenes. The new 'Spiderman is rumored to be more emotionally anchored and realistic than the previous movies.

The film will begin shooting in December, 2010 in Los Angeles and is scheduled to hit theaters July 3, 2012. The studio will release the film in 3D.
