The Emmy Award nominated and seven time Casting Society of America Artios Award winning casting director Francine Maisler has been brought in by Columbia Pictures to cast the upcoming Spider-Man reboot. The film now has a working title of Spiderman 2.0 and Andrew Garfield has been tapped to play Peter Parker aka Spiderman.
The highly talented Mark Webb will direct the film. Webb was mostly known as a music video and short-film director until his feature length debut, (500) Days of Summer.
Originally there were plans for 'Spider-Man 4' with Sam Raimi attached to direct and Maguire, Dunst and other cast members set to reprise their roles. Sony Pictures announced in January 2010 that plans for Spider-Man 4 had been canceled due to Raimi's withdrawal from the project. Raimi reportedly ended his participation due to doubt that he could meet the planned May 6, 2011 release date while upholding the film creatively. Simultaneous with the cancellation of Spider-Man 4, Sony announced that the franchise would be rebooted with a new director and new cast.
The studio is working off a script by James Vanderbilt, and has hired two time Academy Award winning veteran screenwriter Alvin Sargent to fine-tune the script and do a production polish for the Spiderman reboot. Sargent has worked on every single 'Spider-Man' movie, and has become Sony Studio’s go-to guy for punching up weighty scenes. The new 'Spiderman is rumored to be more emotionally anchored and realistic than the previous movies.
The film will begin shooting in December, 2010 in Los Angeles and is scheduled to hit theaters July 3, 2012. The studio will release the film in 3D.

Paramount Pictures open casting calls for feature film 'Super 8'
Production is set to begin this fall on the Paramount Pictures feature film 'Super 8'. Primetime Emmy winning J.J. Abrams will write/direct the film, and 3 time Academy Award winner Steven Spielberg will produce. Primetime Emmy winning casting directors April Webster and Alyssa Weisberg have been conducting the Los Angeles auditions for the lead roles.
'Super 8' was in pre-production under the smokescreen title 'Darlings' and is still being referred to as 'Wickham' for some open casting calls. This is due to the high profile nature of the film.
Paramount Pictures has chosen Weirton, West Virginia and surrounding areas for all of the on-location filming for the Super 8. The remainder will be shot in Los Angeles. Paramount is participating in the West Virginia Film Industry Act, a tax credit program designed to recruit business into the state.
An open casting call was already held on August 21, 2010 in Los Angeles at the Paramount Studios lot. There will be at least two additional open casting calls in Weirton, WV. The Super 8 crews will be shooting for two to three months in the area.
Here are some of the casting needs:

● EMT and Firefighter types.
● Townspeople.
● Cars ranging from the mid-60s to 1979.

Story:

Original Film and Cinemagic Productions are currently in pre-production on the feature film 'Dance of the Mirlitons'. Original Film is the production company behind such films as the Fast and Furious films, The Bounty Hunter, I Am Legend, xXx: State of the Union, Made of Honor, and many more. Shooting on 'Dance of the Mirlitons' begins in November, 2010.

JESSE URCHIN: Female, Caucasian 10 to 12 years old. Should be at least a little overweight or awkward in some way, and have some knowledge of Ballet. Jesse is Corrine Urchin's daughter, is a seemingly unassuming girl and an unlikely ballerina. She has a passion for dance, she's thrilled when she's accepted to the Battleboro School for Young Dancers, but outraged to discover that the video tape sent to the school was that of her mother, a former ballet dancer. To make matters worse, innocent and naïve Jesse is relegated to a special education class based simply on her physique. Incensed by this atrociousness, Jesse plots her revenge, becoming tenacious and ambitious to a fault. She heeds the lesson her mother has taught her throughout her childhood, "I am a warrior", and approaches her revenge with that mentality. Further galvanized upon learning that the school will beholding auditions for the coveted role of Sleeping Beauty in the ballet of the same name, Jesse is determined to land the plum role, no matter what it takes.

Drew Barrymore feature film 'Everybody Loves Whales' still seeking Alaska Native lead roles
Drew Barrymore and John Krasinski are signed on to star in the Universal Pictures true story feature film 'Whales' (working title). The movie is based on an attempt to rescue three California gray whales stranded above the Arctic Circle near Barrow, Alaska in 1988. Barrow is the northernmost city in the United States. The scenes in the movie that take place in Barrow are being reconstructed in Anchorage due to the lack of necessary hotels, housing and businesses to accommodate a months-long shoot, although there will be 1-2 weeks of filming in Barrow. Filming will begin on September 16, 2010 in Anchorage, Alaska and run through December 14, 2010. The release date is scheduled for 2012.

Story:
Based on the true 1988 tale of the rescue of a trio of California gray whales found under the ice of the Arctic Circle near Barrow, Alaska. Over a two week period, the U.S. and Soviet governments joined with oil company executives, environmental activists, Eskimos, businessmen and military officers to help free the giant mammals. Krasinski will play a small town newspaper reporter who breaks the story. Barrymore plays Rachel Kramera, a Greenpeace activist and they turn the potential tragedy into an international story. The incident created a temporary Cold War thaw as President Ronald Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev found a common cause. They interceded to save the whales.
