New Line Cinema, Safran Company, and Evergreen Media Group, LLC are ready to begin principal photography on the upcoming thriller feature film "The Conjuring" in February, 2012. Shooting will take place entirely in North Carolina at Wilmington's spectacular EUE/Screen Gems Studios and other locations in and around the Wilmington area. The film's main stars are being cast in Los Angeles

"The Conjuring" focuses on the life story of Ed and Lorraine Warren, famous 1950s paranormal investigators involved with the real-life Amityville investigation that inspired the movie "The Amityville Horror." The Warrens claimed to investigate more than 10,000 hauntings during their careers. They founded the New England Society for Psychic Research and the Occult Museum, both in Connecticut.

Australian filmmaker James Wan will direct "The Conjuring" from a screenplay written by twin brothers Chad and Carey Hayes. Wan, who is known for making brutally violent horror films, has directed and/or produced such films as "Saw I - VI," "Saw 3D: The Final Chapter," "Dead Silence," and "Death Sentence". He will also be directing "Spectre" starring Nicole Kidman after filming wraps on "The Conjuring".

Summit Entertainment was originally attached to the project back in June, 2009, however the film went into turnaround and New Line Cinema took over the rights for the movie, which includes life rights to the Perron family, whose experiences in their Rhode Island home informs the film, and Ed and Lorraine Warren, experts in paranormal activities who investigated and battled the activities occurring in the Perron household and did the same in the cases that inspired "The Amityville Horror" and "The Haunting in Connecticut." Ghosts and demonic possession are at the center of "The Conjuring" plot.

Peter Safran will produce under his Safran Company banner. In addition to producing films, Safran is also a talent manager whose clients include Djimon Hounsou, David Hyde Pierce, and Paul Reiser. Although not a client, Paul Walker has starred in the last two as yet to be released Safron Company films. Tony DeRosa-Grund will produce via the Evergreen Media, LLC banner. Senior Vice President of Production Walter Hamada will oversee for New Line Cinema.

A major component of attracting films such as "The Conjuring" to North Carolina has been the first class production space, studios, and technological infrastructure provided by EUE/Screen Gems. Their lot offers 50 acres, 10 stages and 150,000 square feet of clear-span production space. Combine this with the additional incentives of a 25% refundable tax credit (effective January 1, 2010) and an accommodations tax exemption, and it is easy to see why film and television production is booming in North Carolina.

Minors and foreign talent must be legally eligible to work in the state of North Carolina and in the United States.
