Universal Pictures auditions in Los Angeles for feature film Battleship

The mega-popular Hasbro board game Battleship is about to come to life on the big screen as an epic naval action adventure. Director Peter Berg will helm the project. Berg starred as an actor playing Dr. Billy Kronk in the hit 20th Century Fox Television series Chicago Hope and has directed such films as The Rundown, Hancock, and The Kingdom.

Brothers Jon and Erich Hoeber have signed on to pen the script. The brothers recently wrote the script for the Di Bonaventura Pictures film Red, starring Bruce Willis and John Malkovich.

Battleship will begin shooting at Baton Rouge, Louisiana's Celtic Studios in August, 2010, and then in Hawaii. The release date is scheduled for May 25, 2012. Principal actors are being cast in Los Angeles, with some featured roles and extras being cast in Baton Rouge and Hawaii.

A contemporary story of an international five-ship fleet engaged in a very dynamic, violent and intense battle against an alien race is known as The Regents. They come from a world similar to ours, and aren’t actually looking to take over humanity or the planet Earth. Instead, they’re on a mission to build a power source in the ocean, which is where they come in contact with a navy fleet. The film will also show us both sides of the story—from the aliens’ perspective, as well as the humans.
